The spaces between the teeth

The spaces between the teeth are called “diastemas”. They are caused by a discrepancy between the size of the teeth (too small) and the size of the jaws bone (too large) due to hereditary factors.
Other causes can be the loss of dental elements, or agenesis (lack of the tooth germ). Agenesis most commonly affects the upper lateral incisor and second premolars.
The closing of the spaces between the teeth takes place by means of orthodontic fixed appliances or clear aligners (Invisalign).
